Otto Link Slant Signature no U.S.A. 8* Hard Rubber Tenor Mouthpiece
I bought this mouthpiece on eBay on July 26, 2006 from a seller in Australia. He had many Slant signatures for sale and since his
feedback was low not many people were willing to bid, so I ended up with the great bargain. The moment I received this mouthpiece I
was in love with it. I did not remember then, and still do not remember to this day, the mouthpiece that's so easy to play, control,
real fun to play. It has characteristic Slant signature sound many people crave about for a reason. This is one of the most valuable
vintage mouthpiece at the market today.
I am most likely the third owner of this mouthpiece. Tips, rails, table are in excellent, flawless state. Chamber is big, round. It
has 8* stamped on the side, no U.S.A. at the shank. Small roll-over buffle as is Otto Link's signature.
The beak has a hint of concaveness to it, more of a feel than something you can see,
but it does not affect playability and saxappeal of this mouthpiece. Has this beautiful vintage sound...
Here is what Theo says about these:
SLANT SIGNATURE HARD RUBBER "TONE EDGE":
The first Florida Rubber TONE EDGE mouthpieces had Otto Link written at a 45 degree angle across the back of the mouthpiece,
invoking the name Slant Signature Otto Links. The first versions had the tip opening stamp on the table. The shank was rounder
and they had a slightly larger chamber than the later Florida models.
The Slant Signature TONE EDGE is the rubber version of the SUPER TONE MASTER and is still the most sought after rubber version of
the Otto Link mouthpiece. There were three models produced. The first model had the facing stamp on the table. They were the darkest
of the three models. The second model had the facing number on the side, with a much wider table and noticeable machine marks on the
table. The third model still had the facing number on the side, but added USA to the shank. The latter two models had a bit more
baffle material, generating more bite to the sound. Larger tip openings started hitting the market as well.
Original add
This Slant Signature Otto Link is stamped 8 star. I bought this mouthpiece second hand, back in the mid 80's. The mouthpiece has a
warm, dark sound; yet has adequate projection, characteristic of Slant Sigs. I remember purchasing this one from a fine English
gentleman, while visiting the "old mother country". The previous owner had the mouthpiece refaced, because it was too open for him.
It is now a very fine playing 7 star (or thereabouts). I always enjoyed playing this piece because it is very free-blowing, and has
excellent response (easy to play).
Although it has been refaced, and is therefore not in original condition, I nevertheless guarantee that you'll love this piece! I
am providing my standard 7 day trial period to the lucky bidder. This means that if you are not absolutely "tickled pink" with the
mouthpiece, just return it to me for a complete refund (minus all postage and insurance charges - both directions).
Since the prices have recently been somewhat exorbitantly high for these vintage pieces, I am opting to place this as a three
(3) day auction, and hope that someone picks up a real bargain. Cheers!
