Selmer Short Shank Soloist D Hard Rubber Tenor Mouthpiece
I bought this mouthpiece on eBay on December 4, 2005, for 270$. Main reason was that Joe Henderson played on Soloist D.
It was very fine player. Somewhat smaller opening, but with a bit harder reed it had that beautiful dark sound. Top to bottom very easy
and even. It had a barely visible toothmark on the beak and showed a discoloration as all vintage hard rubber mouthpieces do. Tip,
rails, chamber, table - all in perfect condition.
Here is what Theo says about these:
"These are the classic Selmer mouthpiece of the 1950s. They had a short almost stubby shank and the name "Soloist" engraved on the
table. The first of these had an almost oval chamber much like the Brilhart Ebolin and Tonalin mouthpieces. Then the chamber became
horse-shoe (or dome) shaped. These later horse shoe shaped chamber mouthpieces are what are normally referred to as the Selmer Short
Shank mouthpiece. These mouthpieces are enjoyed by the Jazz and Classical players alike."
I sold it on July 23, 2006, for 250$ to a player in South Korea. Good luck!
Original add
Here it is, the most desireable of all Selmer tenor mouthpieces. Short Shank Soloist on the Table all Original D facing. The mouthpiece Joe Henderson made famous. This is a beautiful warm, dark, robust player that will appeal to both classical and classic jazz players.
