Theo Wanne Ambika Metal 6* Vintified Tenor Mouthpiece

I bought this mouthpiece on eBay on November 30, 2010, for 450$. I always respected Theo's work and I wanted to try one of his new pieces although, to be honest, I did not want to spend 775$ what Theo asked for these. After a few months of waiting I got one at the acceptable price.

Everything about this piece suggests luxury. You receive it in a box with a personal note from Theo. Then, when you open it, you get a leather zippered box where the mouthpiece is kept. Screwdriver for the ligature, mouthpiece cap. And then, beautifully crafted mouthpiece. I got so used to vintage pieces, pitted plating due to the age, scratches, and so, but this one shined with beauty. No need to describe condition, it is like new. I put it to test but to be fair I only spent few hours on it. It is easy to play, responds well, smooth control but it did not give me that 'wow' effect that I was expecting. I changed the embouchure since then so I should probably give it another try soon.

I quote on this site a lot Theo Wanne's knowledge summerized on his web site. Here is one of the original Theo made pieces and this is what he has to say about these... (For more details please follow the above link to his web site. This mouthpiece is current production if this slipped somehow)
"The AMBIKA is our darkest mouthpiece. It has a deep, hauntingly gorgeous tone that only poetry can describe.
The AMBIKA has a HUGE True Large Chamber, no baffle, and rounded inner-side-walls. It has the full bodied sound of vintage 1940's mouthpieces, but will project enough to fill the room if needed. The Chamber and Baffle are far more accurate than other vintage and new mouthpieces due to our superior machining, which means a better playing mouthpiece. If you like the vintage sound, you will love the AMBIKA."

Original add

For Tenor Sax: one almost new Wanne Ambika 6* mouthpiece in Theo's "vintified" dark colored finish. Excellent condition. This is Theo's darkest sounding model in his mouthpiece line, yet it still has nice projection. Modeled after the old NY Link Tone Master. Theo makes the Ambika model with no baffle and a large chamber. This is a Metal Mouthpiece. The finish on the metal is dark colored. This mouthpiece produces a smooth, somewhat dark, mainstream tenor sax sound that blends well in a sax section. This mouthpiece was played very little. I decided to stay with a rubber mthpc. This item will ship with the original mthpc pouch, cap, screwdriver for the ligature, and the original Wanne box. Priced to sell at $450. Theo Wanne sells these new for $775. Ships from Los Angeles.
